Beatles Tribute in aid of Children With Cancer Fund – Polegate

On Saturday (7th March 2020) a local band, NOTHING IS REAL, entertained us for the 2nd year running with a fantastic evening of Beatles music. Their generosity and that of our members and friends continues to astound us as we raised £840 on the night for Children With Cancer Fund – Polegate  our Captain’s Charity of the Year. A raffle was held with 1st prize being the only ever authorised biography of the Beatles by Hunter Davies and 2nd prize was another book by the same author called The Beatles Lyrics and is the story behind their music. A big thank you to everyone involved in the evening, you know who you are.

“What’s On In March” . . .

Mixed ability teams will be selected by Captain Peter. The event starts at 9.30am for the preliminary rounds followed by the knockout rounds in the afternoon. The bar and Restaurant will be open all day for refreshments. Social Members are more than welcome. All proceeds to Children With Cancer Fund – Polegate. F V A G I K M Y ???

Yesterday saw the club put on another beautiful Afternoon Tea, tables were laid with beautiful embroidered tablecloths and vintage china, members were served with a selection of sandwiches, scones & cakes and during the afternoon had a bit of fun with a quiz & a few table games. Toss the Teabag tested skill 😉 then everyone had to write the funniest telegram sentence using 8 letters taken randomly from the alphabet and using them in order so – F V A G I K M Y became Five Vicars Arresting Goats In Kinky Muddy Yfronts, hilarious. Well done to Chris and her team for a great time.

Taste the Difference

Quiz master Steve has done it again, another brilliant quiz night attended by 120 eager quizzers. An interesting twist to one of the rounds with a ‘Taste the Difference’ section which was great fun!

It was a very close contest with team ‘I am Spartacus’ finishing 2nd by 1 point to team ‘Young & Hot’. Team ‘The Naughty Corner’ were their usual rowdy selves.

Big thank you not only to Steve for all the time and effort involved in putting the quiz together but also to Chris for her energy, time & organisation of the raffle, winners prizes & preparing the nibbles, Roger ‘the calculator’ without whom we wouldn’t know who’d won! those who helped set up the room and helped during the evening, Wendy for selling the raffle tickets, Peter & Julie behind the bar and to all those members who stayed behind afterwards to put all the tables & chairs back in place.

Xmas Party

Friday 13th, unlucky for some but not for our members who enjoyed a fantastic evening of music performed by Tom Powell an accomplished singer/guitarist who captivated his audience and had us all singing and dancing all night long. Among his song list for the night were songs spanning the decades from ‘Mack the Knife’, ‘Mr Bojangles’, hits by Elvis, Buddy Holly right up to Queen, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and an amazing rendition of Mika’s ‘Grace Kelly’.

If you would like to know more about Tom please visit his website at www.tompowellmusic.com
