At Eastbourne & District Indoor Bowls Club we are committed to playing our part in supporting our local community and its organisations. Here are some examples of our community initiatives.
Bowling for the visually impaired
Our community work is expanding and we now provide facilities for visually impaired bowlers to play on a weekly basis, and a local care home has taken up a Corporate Sponsorship which enables them to bring a small group of residents to our club once a week during our winter season to enjoy an afternoon out with tea and cake and for four of them to have a roll-up.

Social Activities for People with Dementia & their Carers
We recently welcomed Members and their Carers from ‘Memory Lane’ to have their first try at bowls. We started the session by having a go at delivering the bowls, followed by scoring points using the floor target and ‘goal’. A cuppa and cake finished off a fun afternoon and we look forward to their next visit. Visits are planned for the 4th Friday in the month.

We are trying to introduce younger players to our sport and have thoroughly enjoyed entertaining a couple of local Scout and Cub groups giving them a chance to bowl under supervision using various targets, obstacles and goals to make it fun. These evenings have been received with great enthusiasm and one group even brought their mascot.
Captain’s Charity of the Year
Last season (Sept 2018 – Apr 2019) we raised the staggering sum of £3,393.38 for Children With Cancer Fund, Polegate. (www.childrenwithcancerfund.org.uk)
Our members have been so supportive of this charity, and enjoyed the various events that we have organised, that The Captain’s Charity for 2019/2020 season is again the Children With Cancer Fund, Polegate.
The Captain’s Charity Tournament for Club Members is scheduled for 14th March 2020.
The total raised this season (Sept 2019 – Apr 2020) is £3,184.00 a fantastic achievement considering our season was cut short by the Corona Virus.
Total raised since Sept 2018 £6577.38
