President “Fives” Day Competition

On Sunday 8th March we held our President “Fives” Day competition, a popular annual
event organised by George Brown, who was especially proud to
conduct it this year as he also happens to be the Club President.
12 teams of 5 players competed, the schedule of play and match
results being displayed on the four large screens in the club.
The day consisted of Singles and Fours in the morning, Pairs
and Triples in the afternoon, each session lasting 1½ hours
Each team member had to compete in two disciplines, teams
being awarded 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, with an
added bonus of a team being able to nominate their “Joker” on
a specific game, this effectively doubled any points gained
For the purists, as time was of the essence, continuity was
ensured by ruling no trial ends, full scores to count on all
ends, no dead ends and re-spot rules to be applied, no visits
to the head or protracted discussions, which allowed the day
to run smoothly without any unnecessary delays
After some very competitive play, the victorious team were the
“Sneaky Blinders” comprising Paul Davies, Neil Pierce, Simon
Knight, Simon Perry and Bill Fuller who narrowly beat a team
of Louise Kenward, Barry Kenward, Linda Stanley, Sue Taylor
and Adrian Wainwright on just a two shot aggregate to win the
coveted title and splendid trophy
The Club President presented the winning team with the trophy,
thanking all the participants, bar and restaurant staff that
had combined to ensure a successful day, which can only
enhance the clubs enviable reputation of being a welcoming and
friendly club that continues to maintain a variety of bowling
and social events for all their members
