Newsletter December 2019

With the winter season in full swing and Christmas just around the corner we are pleased to report the Club is very busy on all fronts.

The launch of our brand new website on 6th September, following four months of intensive development is already proving to be a success and, alongside our Facebook pages, will continue to be central to our marketing activities in the future.

Our Open Days, the new website, leaflets, Facebook and referrals have resulted in over 50 new bowlers joining our coaching courses which started in September. The recruitment activity has also seen a steady increase in our Social Membership category.

In the Autumn we welcomed Eastbourne Photographic Society, who have over 100 members, and now hire our function room for their weekly meetings on a Tuesday evening and 6 of their members have joined our coaching courses. Our function room bookings have increased, bringing more local people into the Club.

We are steadily expanding our capabilities for Bowling for the less able and the local Visually Impaired Bowlers have joined and bowl once a week. Memory Lane, a charity for people with dementia and their families, come and bowl once a month and they find this activity very stimulating.

We have increased our sponsors from 7 to 14 companies and recently held a Corporate Sponsors Evening for their employees to try their hand at bowls.

Taster sessions have been held for local Beaver, Cub and Scout Groups with 120 children and their parents attending. These have been well received by the children and parents alike and generated interest in our Junior Academy.

With the increase in membership the Bowling rinks are busier, entries to our Club competitions is at its highest level for some time culminating in our Club Finals in April 2020. We have a regular weekly handicap league for newer bowlers which runs alongside the established internal leagues and the new mixed singles Ladder League has over 70 Club bowlers of all abilities competing in 15 divisions.

We are fielding teams in the County and National Competitions which are all at their preliminary stages and have a team competing in the National Champion of Champions at Potters Resort in December. Our Junior Academy has players entered into County competitions.

Our regular calendar of social events are becoming increasing popular, with some being sold out. From the very popular quiz nights, the vintage tea and cake afternoon to being entertained by local bands and singers. The fun everyone has during the 60’s fancy dress and barn dance events is not to be missed. The Sunday Roast has returned for the new season and the tables are fully booked on most Sundays and our Winter Menu is proving very popular.

May we wish you all a Happy Christmas and a successful 2020.
