At Eastbourne & District Indoor Bowls Club we are committed to playing our part in supporting our local community and its organisations. Here are some examples of our community initiatives.
Bowling for the visually impaired
Our community work is expanding and we now provide facilities for visually impaired bowlers to play on a weekly basis, and a local care home has taken up a Corporate Sponsorship which enables them to bring a small group of residents to our club once a week during our winter season to enjoy an afternoon out with tea and cake and for four of them to have a roll-up.

Social Activities for People with Dementia & their Carers
We recently welcomed Members and their Carers from ‘Memory Lane’ to have their first try at bowls. We started the session by having a go at delivering the bowls, followed by scoring points using the floor target and ‘goal’. A cuppa and cake finished off a fun afternoon and we look forward to their next visit. Visits are planned for the 4th Friday in the month.

Younger bowlers
We are trying to introduce younger players to our sport and have thoroughly enjoyed entertaining a couple of local Scout and Cub groups giving them a chance to bowl under supervision using various targets, obstacles and goals to make it fun. These evenings have been received with great enthusiasm and one group even brought their mascot
Captain’s Charity Over The Years
From the start of the winter season 2018 to the end of the summer season 2023 our Captain’s Charity was Children With Cancer Fund, Polegate (www.childrenwithcancerfund.org.uk) whose aim is to grant wishes to children up to the age of eighteen, and their families, who have, or have had, cancer and who primarily live in East Sussex.
Our members have been so supportive of this charity enjoying the various events that we have organised, such as a Captain’s Charity Tournament, President’s 5’s Tournament, various Mixed Drives, Penny Pots around the club, collecting used printer cartridges for recycling and inviting the charity to run their own raffle and games tables at our annual Spring and Christmas Fayre’s.
Total raised from Sept 2018 to Aug 2023 £12,239
Our club continues to support Children With Cancer Fund, Polegate through the recycling of members printer cartridges, a full box earns the charity approx £80 which they use to counteract their stationary costs, however since the start of the winter season 2023/24 our Captain’s Charity has been St Wilfrid’s Hospice . . .
